Dumfries S1/S2 development squad travelled to Annan on Sunday to take part in a 4 team tournament along with Annan, Stewartry and Moffat.
Some of the S2 boys are playing with the U15 squad and when their game was called off late they joined the squad to go to Annan. So with a squad of 20 players who all want to play every minute of every game selection was always going to be a problem for the coaches. Each game was played for 15 minutes.
In the first game against Stewartry who beat Dumfries at the start oflast season, Dumfries are now proving too strong for them and ran in 6 tries and converted 3 to nil.
The second game against Annan went much the same way and Dumfries ran in 5 tries, converting 3 against nil.
The last game versus Moffat with the squad still rotating did not affect the way Dumfries were playing and again scored 5 tries. The boys were disappointed to lose a try on the last play of the game.
With the boys having been committed to training for the past few weeks on a Monday and Wednesday evenings this tournament was a good gauge to see how their development is coming along. These games showed that they are coming along well and hopefully it will continue for the start of the mini league against five other teams from the region starting 10 October, 2010.
