Dumfries Saints in the Community, Monday 26th March 2018

Monday 26th March saw the Dumfries Saints Rugby Club and the D&G Active Schools Team play host to 381 boys and girls from 10 Primary Schools from the Nithsdale region at a P6 and P7 Primary School Festival of Rugby at Park Farm. The Festival was a culmination of 12 weeks of work with boys and girls at 17 Primary Schools by the Saint’s Community Development Team made up of experienced Coaches and members of the Saints’ Youth Coach Development Programme.

The weather played it’s part too as sunshine and blue-sky views across Park Farm and away up to Criffel greeted supportive Staff and Pupils from the 10 Schools. Whilst Teachers and Parents who came along to show their support enjoyed the famous Dumfries Saints hospitality, with some well-deserved time to have a cup of Tea and Cake, the Club’s Youth Coach Development Team put the boys and girls through their paces in a well organised series of Festival type Rugby games and activities. The focus was wholly on enjoyment and using Rugby to build transferrable physical and mental skills for all children who took part with every player having an opportunity to show off their talents. In recognition of this, every pupil that took part was awarded a certificate of attendance.

From the Club’s point of view the Festival was a great success and provided us with further opportunity to showcase the fantastic work we do in the community and welcome so many new faces (Teachers, Parents, Boys and Girls) to Park Farm and experience the wonderful facilities we have but more importantly the fun, inclusive nature, traditions and ethos that are synonymous with the Dumfries Saints and the Game of Rugby.

The Saints look forward to growing their relationship with local Primary and High Schools and continue to grow the Game by encouraging young people to come down to Park Farm and join our Rugby Family where every boy and girl is looked after by an excellent group of Professional and Volunteer Coaches and Managers with a 100% PVG clearance record and provided wonderful opportunities to participate and grow in a safe, fun-filled environment.
