Dumfries S1/S2 37 Annan S1/S2 20
After our last game v Langholm training has been working on tackling, rucking and off loading and this game v Annan was an opportunity to put our training into game practice.
Annan had already lost heavily to Langholm so Dumfries knew this would be an opportunity to try different players in different positions which is important in their devolopment.
Callum Fitzpatrick returned to the S2s after his shoulder injury playing with the U15s and was a huge difference scoring three tries in the first 15 minutes. The boys were throwing the ball around and Ryan Sarahs completed the scoring and added two conversions. Kyle Lindsay added another conversion to take the first break to 15 points to nil up.
This was an opportunity to bring players on and change things around with Sean Parry (S1) and Reid Paterson (S1) making their debuts and Fraser Letharby playing at Stand off it was a very young side in the second 20minutes which helped Annan gain some confidence and in an end to end game it finished 4 tries a piece. Edward Jackson playing out of his skin this season gathered the ball at the kick off and ran through everyone to score, Ryan Sarahs added another and Kyle Lindsay again scored two more on the wing position to prove how strong he has become during the summer. Two assists by Jack McHenry off loading at perfect times. Annan achieved their scores by using their big runners against the small Dumfries S1’s.
Dumfries changed things round again for the last 20minutes and Fraser Letharby scored a perfect try from the foot of a ruck near the corner. Callum Fitzpatrick again proved he was as big as the Annan big boys by adding another two scores, Ryan Sarahs converting one. Annan scored a late runaway try for the final score.
The game stopped a few minutes early as a scrum collapsed and Ewan Craik sustained a neck/back injury resulting in a visit to the hospital but we are all glad to know that Ewan is recovering well.
