Colts v. Stewartry – 21.2.15

Stewartry Colts v Dumfries Saints Colts

Saints Colts take the honours in local derby match

Dumfries Colts traveled through to Castle Douglas to play Stewartry RFC for a local ‘friendly derby’ on Saturday 21st Feb.

Quite surprisingly, Saints Colts were 5 points down after 12 seconds. However, this simply spurred the Dumfries lads on and they responded magnificently. Typically, the reply came from a series of pick and drive moves that culminated in Lindsay driving over to level the scores. The pattern of play was repeated with Clyde, Howatson, Fitzpatrick and Hyslop all scoring well worked tries. The strong wind was not conducive to successful place kicking with Clyde only managing one conversion. Nevertheless, the Saints were well ahead 5 – 27 at half time.

The turnaround meant that the Saints were now playing into some horrendous conditions. The home side capitalized on this – making full use of the wind and scoring a converted try. Not to be outdone Saints replied with a try by Howatson which was converted by Clyde. Stewartry replied with two more converted tries. The result was put beyond doubt by a Lindsay penalty. Final score was 26 – 37 to the Saints. Saints Man of the match was Howatson.
