S1 in Fair Play Festival
Dumfries Saints S1 took part in the SRU fair play festival at Cumbernauld on Sunday. The squad of 15 contained 7 players from Max High School of Rugby which is great boost to the club
They were in the same group as Allan Glens, Cumnock and East Kilbride in 18 minute games.
Brodie Hawkins stood out in the first game by scoring two tries and some great running from Logan Patterson sprinted the length of the field to score in the 3 nil win over Allan Glens but the team were well ahead of their opponents in tackling and ball presentation skills.
Cumnock in the second game were different team altogether and had some excellent runners and played some great passages of play. Dumfries lost three tries to nil but made a real game off it with some great tackling giving Cumnock their hardest game of the section.
East Kilbride was a real close game and the teams were evenly matched. A late score from EK gave them a 3 tries to 1 win with Brodie getting his third try of the festival and was awarded the Dumfries Most Valuable Player in his first outing for the Saints.
An excellent day out in the sunshine for the boys with great leadership qualities shown by Grant Nelson throughout.
