Dumfries Saints S1 team travelled to Annan on Sunday, 20 November to play Annan S1/2 team in the local development league. The mild, sunny weather was welcomed by players and supporters alike and made for a pleasant afternoon of rugby.
Annan kicked off the tie allowing Dumfries to take early possession. The first try came from Dumfries soon after the kick off and showed great team work from the boys, sending Ewan Kennedy flying along the wing to run in a well worked try.
Once again, Dumfries showed that all the training has been worthwhile when following a text book scrum; Ryan McCormack was set free to score the second try.Annan was able to score a quick try following the restart, which was converted well.
Half time score was 6 : 4 to Dumfries.
The restart saw more great scrummaging from Dumfries with Fraser Henry performing well in his new role at No. 8.
Robert Neill as full back made some fantastic try saving tackles and also managed to score a superb try to take the score to 9 : 4.
Thomas Jackson performed well at the breakdown and made some crunching tackles against the larger opposition players.
Annan were able to take advantage of a short break in Dumfries’ concentrations to run in a second try under the post. This was unconverted and took the score to 9:7.
In the last minute of the game, Ross Hair made a powerful run for the line but was tackled just short. Happily, he produced a good off load to Jamie Dorrans who ran through for the final try of the game.
Final Score Dumfries 12 Annan 7, Robert Neill was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent play throughout the game.
