On Sunday 15th April Dumfries Saints welcomed teams from Ayr, Hamilton, Dalziel, Marr, Newton Stewart and Stewartry to Park Farm for their annual U18’s Sevens Tournament. The wet weather didn’t deter the boys and to a backdrop of the Circus Big Tent the tournament kicked off.  The 10 teams played a league format with a semi final and final giving plenty of game time to all involved.

First up was Newton Stewart against a strong Hamilton A team.  Newton put up a good fight but Hamilton were just too strong.  Dalziel suffered the same fate against Ayr Pinks.  Hamilton A and Ayr Pinks set the bar for the level of play for the rest of the tournament with Marr having won all their games a strong contender for the trophy but in the end it came down to a final between Ayr Pinks and Hamilton A.  The weather had taken a nasty turn and in very wet and muddy conditions Ayr took the lead and Hamilton couldn’t quite turn things around.  The game finished 29 to Ayr and 5 to Hamilton.

Dumfries Saints RFC would like to thank all the teams who took part in their tournament, our 3 referees who did an amazing job between them covering all the games, the ball boys from our U15 squad, the mums in the kitchen, bar staff, our main sponsor Border Meats who provided all the burgers and Tesco for a donation of fruit, Liam for sponsoring programmes and all the work involved with that and the scores and everyone else who helped make this day such a success.  Thanks also to Issy Rainey, Club President, for presenting the prizes as follows:
