Saints ‘Tri Southern Upland Way’ with Brian Armstrong

Volunteers required to accompany club member Brian Armstrong on day 2 of his Triathlon style fund raising journey from Cockburnspath to Portpatrick along the Southern Upland Way.
Brian will be swimming, cycling and running over three days –

Day 1 Fri 6th July: Cockburnspath to St Mary’s Loch 67 miles
Day 2: Sat 7th July: St Mary’s Loch to St John’s Dalry 75 miles
Day 3: Sun 8th July: St John’s Dalry to Portpatrick 70 miles

On Sat 7th Brian and 5 others will set off at 7 am and swim 3 miles across St Mary’s Loch. He is looking for as many people as possible to join him and 12 others at 9 am to cycle the 46 miles by road from St Mary’s Loch to Sanquhar even if 2/3 people split distance. Brian will continue for 10 miles on an off road run before cycling 14 miles into St John’s Dalry for a well earned nights rest.

Brian’s total challenge involves:

Swimming: 1 mile across Watch Water Reservoir on day 1, 3 miles across St Mary’s Loch on day 2 and 1 mile across Loch Trool on day 3
Cycling: 56 miles on day 1, 60 miles on day 2 and 56 miles on day 3
Running: 10 miles on day 1, 12 miles on day 2 and 13 miles on day 3
Total: Approximately 212 miles

Brian’s brother Alan Armstrong and Ally Paul are the back up team for the three days. Ally will be in a boat accompanying the swims and Alan assisting on the cycles. They will be dropping off bikes/wetsuits, sorting food etc. Further details will be provided over the next few weeks

Sponsor sheets will be available to download from the Saints website and link will be provided to take web visitors to Brian’s Just Giving webpage. The money raised will go to Cystic Fibrosis and Youth Development at Dumfries Rugby Club.
