Peebles 15 Dumfries Saints 22
Under the floodlights at the Gytes Peebles started strong, they were fired up for the occasion and were playing with customary aggression in front of a home crowd outnumbered by Dumfries supporters and Kelso players.
They had the bulk of possession and territory in the first 5 minutes as Dumfries got their playing hands and heads on. A simple converted score after a lot of pressure put the 7 nil up. In a rare visit into the Peebles half Saints were awarded a penalty and Jordan Kerr pulled it back to 7 : 3. Sam Hiddleston had a great run out of defence into the Peebles 5 metre the offload went wrong but it showed up some weaknesses in Peebles line.
Saints were now in the game and some consistent possession in the Peebles 22 created a gap for John Carlisle to get a try, it went unconverted taking the score to 7 : 8. As Saints put on the pressure Peebles showed the lack of discipline which has gained them the most red cards in the league. A high tackle on Ryan Cruikshank was punished only by a penalty but Ryan took no further part in the game and will need rested before the cup Final on the 21st.
The next high tackle was on Jack Steel but this time the Peebles hooker went to the bin for 10 minutes. Peebles found some strength in their defence and held Saints out for the short duration of the bin and the minute their player returned they scored their second try. The conversion was missed while everyone on the touchline checked their watches and 12 : 8 stayed the score till half time.
Saints came out strong in the second half, from a scrum on the Peebles 10 Saints went down the narrow side where Sam Hiddleston joined the line from full back and ran in a simple but well taken try. The conversion was missed taking the score to 12 : 13. This was followed by a penalty on the Peebles 22 kicked by Jordan Kerr to go 12 : 16. The game settled into a really entertaining encounter with terrific runs from both sets of backs and terrific defence to match them. No more tries but the penalty count was mounting for both teams of which Jordan Kerr kicked two for Saints to Pebbles one finishing a great game 15 : 22.
