Past President Jim McKenzie

It is with great sadness that we announce the death, at the grand old age of 90 years, of Jim McKenzie, Past President and Honorary Member of the club.

Jim served 3 years as Club President in the nineties following in the footsteps of his great friend and colleague Duncan Murray. The two of them did a great deal of work in promoting and developing the club during their time serving on committee.

During the nineties the Dumfries 1st XV were on winning form and one of the highlights of Jim’s presidency was winning the league and the club gaining promotion. Going to Murrayfield with Captain Mickey Hunt to receive the trophy was very special to Jim and so well deserved.

Jim was a regular supporter at Park Farm until illness stepped in and put a halt to it but he did still enjoy attending the Presidents’ and Captains’ hospitality days at the club, meeting up with old friends and reminiscing of the “good times”. It was always a pleasure to see him at the club.

Jim endured his illness with great fortitude and still maintained a positive attitude throughout.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Jim’s son and daughter and extended family at this sad time.

A true gentleman, Jim will be sorely missed at Park Farm.
