As you are all aware, due to unforeseen circumstances our season came to a sudden and unexpected end due to Covid 19. The social distancing rules meant we had to cancel the Club’s Annual Dinner and presentation of awards plus our Annual General Meeting. Both of these events were occasions when, as President, I would normally have the chance to thank people for their efforts during the season but as the cancellations denied me the opportunity, I’d like to remedy that here.
A big thank you to the skills and talent of Euan Mack and Jack Steele who did a cracking job coaching the 1st XV players, to Stan Johnstone in the unenviable role as Team Manager and to the players for their determination and fighting spirit on the pitch. Although promotion was, unfortunately, denied the Saints this season, it means we can all look forward to another roller coaster in 20/21 with Saints challenging again for promotion to Division 1.
Thank you also to Bryan MacLellan and his 2nd XV team. What an outstanding season they had! But for Covid 19 our players would have been playing in Reserve League Division 1 next season. This was a great achievement from the players and a dedicated coach, and we can look forward to a repeat performance next season.
To all the coaches of our Mini/Micro and Junior section again a big thank you. You have all done a great job in bringing on these young players. The Galant Conference players had an excellent season with all sections finishing in the mid to top half of the Conference and a special mention to our U14s who won every game they played. Potentially, we have some fantastic up and coming stars and I’m certain the Saints of the future are going to give us all something to look forward to.
Melanie McEwan has done a fantastic job overseeing the Micros and Minis this season so a big thank you Melanie for “grasping the nettle” and coming on board.
To all the kitchen volunteers a massive thank you for all the home baking and catering you do. Your work is very much appreciated as is the time you freely give so that our youngsters can enjoy their rugby then socialise over some food and a drink.
A big thank you to Dominic Stewart for the sterling work he has done to promote Girls’ Rugby at the Club and I wish him well in his endeavours to get more game time for the girls next season.
On the committee, Sharon Hiddleston, my Vice President, has been a tower of strength and a good “listening ear” when required. Rob Orr, Club Secretary, has done a great job and his work on Health and Safety and Risk Assessments is of great value to the club. To the rest of my hard-working committee who have supported me during a difficult season – I couldn’t have managed without your help! I really appreciate the effort you have all put in and I thank each and every one of you for serving on the committee and for your valuable contribution to our rugby club.
