Match Report from Sunday, 3 October 2010 – Home games against Ardrossan & Moffat
Dumfries Saints mini teams first home games of the season were played against Ardrossan and Moffat.
Due to squad numbers, on some occasions the Ardrossan and Moffat teams combined to make up a joint team against Dumfries.
Dumfries Primary 4 & 5 team combined against Moffat for their first game of the day with a win of 9 to 2. Scorers included Matthew Currie, Harry Austin, Gregor Hiddleston and Grant Nelson. Some good supporting play all round with Fergus Adams playing well in his first competitive rugby game. Well done and welcome to the team.
Dumfries Primary 5 team then played Ardrossan Primary 5s. This game ended with a Dumfries win at 6 to 0. Scorers for this tie included Matthew Currie, Finlay McMaster and Grant Nelson.
Dumfries Primary 4’s then went on to play Ardrossan. The home side once again were victorious with a 9 to 5 win. This was a particularly good game for Harry Austin who scored 8 with Peter Wilson bagging the final try. This was a good game which demonstrated a lot of potential for the future from all involved.
Dumfries Primary 6 & 7s combined to produce an A and B squad who both played games against a joint Ardrossan/Moffat side.
Dumfries A won this game 8 -1 with some tremendous tackling, passing and rucking. Among the scorers in this tie was Ryan McCormack who ran in 3 tries against his old team.
Dumfries B won their tie 5 – 0 with Chris McBride and Jack Currie combining particularly well. Gavin Wilson scored 2 fantastic tries to bring the day to a close.
It was great to meet up with Ardrossan again, who were our touring partners from last season’s tour to Ireland.
All of these games were played in the true spirit of rugby with a some good refereeing from Tom Neill and Phil Hair.
A good day was had by all!
