Annan Friendly
The annual contest for the A A McPherson Memorial Trophy between Annan and Dumfries Saints took place at Violetbank on Monday 4th January in what was a cold but dry day with the pitch looking good considering the amount of rain that has fallen recently.
Both sides fielded a mixture of players from their 1st’s and 2nd’s and it gave everyone the chance to blow out any cobwebs left after the festivities. Annan started out strong and pinned Dumfries in their half for the first 20 minutes but after some exceptional defending the Saints started getting used to handling the ball and were moving it out their back line with a lot more vigour. The rest of the match was dominated by Dumfries with 2 tries each from Kenny Henderson , Gavin Howatson and Lee Scott. Michael Scott and Jack Steele both got one each and the goal kickers were Ben Johnston and Jack Steele. The final score finished at 50-0 to Dumfries. The Man of the Match was Annan’s scrum half Alan Rae for the tireless effort he put in tackling throughout the game.
On Saturday the Saints host Irvine 1ST and 2nd XV’s at Park Farm for what should be another exciting league fixture.
